Cookies and Milk Milkshakes

Cookies and Milk Milkshakes are a perfect combination of two classic desserts–cookies and milk and a vanilla milkshake.

I’m usually a water only sort of person, with the occasional sparkling water or Izze thrown in. But you know what I can really get behind?

Drinking ice cream.

Especially when said ice cream also happens to taste like chocolate chip cookies. I may not be one to dunk my cookies in milk, but throw them in the blender with some good vanilla ice cream and I am alllll about it. Not to mention that milkshakes are just about the easiest dessert in the history of ever to make. Just throw it all in blender and watch the magic happen!

What Goes into Cookies & Milk Milkshakes?

  • I recommend picking a high quality vanilla ice cream to start with. Your milkshakes will taste exponentially better if you’re working with an ice cream made from real, quality ingredients. I used Tillamook in these (not sponsored), but I also really like Breyer’s, Bluebell, or anything else that’s made from the basics–cream, sugar, eggs, and milk without a whole lot else.
  • For the cookies, I used Stella Park’s recipe on Serious Eats, then crumbled the dough over a baking sheet instead of making it into cookies before baking. However, you could also use premade cookie dough if you prefer to.
  • Chocolate sauce! Technically optional, but not actually. You can opt to add a few tablespoons to the ice cream while blending, or you can drizzle it over the inside of your serving cups like I did. The idea is to add a subtle chocolate flavor that won’t overpower the cookies.

How do I Make Milkshakes?

  • The easiest way to make milkshakes is using a blender. I have a Vitamix, and really like it, but you don’t need something with a high powered engine. You can also use an immersion, or stick blender, in most cases. I would recommend not using it for this recipe, because it won’t break up the cookies as effectively.
  • After you’ve baked the cookie crumbles, all you really need to do it throw everything in your blender jar and let it get to work!
  • You’ll need to add the whole milk to your blender jar first, as hard ice cream can cause the blades to get stuck. The liquid helps them work more smoothly
  • You can add the chocolate sauce to the blender  if you aren’t serving the milkshakes in a clear glass.  Just add a tablespoon or two at a time to make sure it doesn’t overpower the flavor of the cookies

And can we just take a moment to appreciate these photos of Prentice really enjoying the experience? If they don’t sell you on these milkshakes, I really don’t know what will.

Cookies and Milk Milkshakes are a perfect combination of two beloved desserts–cookies and milk and a vanilla milkshake. It doesn’t get more classic!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups vanilla ice cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 1/2 cups cookie dough
  • 24 Tbsp. chocolate sauce
  •
  •

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Crumble the cookie dough into small pieces over the parchment and bake for 5-8 minutes, or until the crumbs are a light golden brown. Remove from the oven and set aside to cool.

Pour 1 cup of milk into the jar of a blender, then scoop in four cups of ice cream. Add about half of the cookie crumbles, then place the lid on and blend on high until the mixture is smooth. Depending on the strength of your blender, you may need to add a bit more milk.

Drizzle the chocolate sauce on the inside of your serving cups, then pour the milkshake mixture over it. Top with the remaining cookie crumbs and serve immediately.
