Springtime in Alsace

Spring has been slow coming to this part of France, just like much of the world.  However, Alsace is famous for it’s flowers, and some of them have been bold enough to show their pretty heads even in the cold.  IMG_0618

There is a certain progression that heralds the coming, arrival, and progression of Spring, or in French, Printemps.  First are the forsythias, then tulips, geraniums, and then an explosive profusion of every color and flower imaginable.  My favorites at the moment are the irises in white, yellow, and every color of purple imaginable.  They grow everywhere– in gardens, parks, and out in the hills of the vineyards.
